what we believe
The Junior Arc believes that people with and without disabilities can equally benefit from getting to know one another.  As young adults we are all in a transitional phase of life "What am I going to do with myself?  How will I make friends if I am no longer in school?  How can I help to make the world a better place?  I am independent as an adult but still want to have fun!"  Our organization provides a locale for young adults to interact with each other while learning that we have a lot more in common than may appear on the surface.  Young adults with disabilities enjoy doing the same things those without do: going out, watching sports, dancing, concerts, hanging out with friends.  People with disabilities, like anyone want a diverse group of friends and do not want to be isolated.  Generally, people with disabilities only have segregated options for social activities.

What we believe:

  1. That people with disabilities should have all the same rights that those without disabilities have.
  2. Segregation is not beneficial to anyone ever!
  3. People with disabilities should be respected, for respect presumes equality.
  4. In order to grow one must challenge oneself.
  5. Education is the key to progress.
  6. Everyone should learn more about advocacy and issues that are important to young adults with disabilities.
  7. There should be environments where young adults can meet people from different backgrounds that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to interact with.
  8. That the community should provide space for inclusion of people with and without disabilities.
  9. That if you take the time to learn about someone you may even become friends.
  10. The first step must always be taken and Junior Arc is trying to pave the way.

We believe that young adults want to get involved in making the world more open-minded and inclusive but don’t always know how.  Joining the Junior Arc is an opportunity to do so.  By meeting different people who have different challenges in their lives one can unlearn stereotypes and enrich their own life.
